Tage Nathaniel Thompson (born October 30, 1997 in Phoenix , Arizona ) is an American - Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Buffalo Sabers in the National Hockey League since July 2018 and at the same time for their farm team, the Rochester Americans , in the American Hockey League is used.

Career

Tage Thompson was born in Phoenix when his father Brent was playing for the Coyotes there . In his youth he also followed his stations, for example he ran for the youth organization of the Alaska All Stars when his father trained the Alaska Aces . For the 2014/15 season, Tage Thompson moved to the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP), the central talent factory of the USA Hockey Association . With the NTDP he took part in the game operations of the United States Hockey League (USHL), the highest junior league in the country. In addition, the selections of the NTDP function as junior national teams, so that the attacker won the gold medal at the U18 World Cup in 2015 .

After a year in the NTDP, Thompson enrolled at the University of Connecticut in fall 2015 and continued to play for their huskies in Hockey East in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) game. As a freshman , the attacker got 32 scorer points in 36 games and was then selected in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft in 26th position by the St. Louis Blues . For now, however, he returned to Connecticut for one more season, during which he won another gold medal with the U20 national team at the U20 World Cup in 2017 , and at the end of which he was elected to the Third All-Star Team of Hockey East.

As a result, the Blues provided him with an entry-level contract in March 2017 and put him in the American Hockey League (AHL) with their farm team , the Chicago Wolves , until the end of the season . At the beginning of the 2017/18 season, Thompson made his debut for the Blues in the National Hockey League (NHL) and has been there ever since, with regular changes to the new farm team, the San Antonio Rampage . In addition, after his first season in the professional field, he made his debut for the senior national team of the USA as part of the 2018 World Cup , where he won the bronze medal with the team.

After his first professional season, Thompson was handed over to the Buffalo Sabers in July 2018 together with Vladimír Sobotka , Patrik Berglund , a first-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2019 and a second-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2021 . In return, Ryan O'Reilly moved to St. Louis.
