Career

Patrik Berglund began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth division of VIK Västerås HK , for whose professional team he was active in the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan from 2005 to 2008 . During this period, the attacker was selected in the first round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft as the 25th player of the St. Louis Blues . For St. Louis he scored 21 goals in 80 games and made 26 assists in the 2008/09 season , his rookie year . Because of his achievements, the Swede was appointed to the NHL All-Rookie Team .

In the following seasons, Berglund established himself as a regular scorer with the Blues and left North America only briefly during the lockout of the 2012/13 season to play again for his home club VIK Västerås HK.

In February 2017, the attacker extended his end-of-season contract in St. Louis for another five years, during which he is expected to receive an average annual salary of $ 3.85 million. After a total of ten years, however, the Blues gave him to the Buffalo Sabers in July 2018, including the Thompson , Vladimír Sobotka days , a first-round vote for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and a second-round vote for the 2021 NHL Entry Draft . In return, Ryan O'Reilly moved to St. Louis.

In Buffalo, however, Berglund was only active for a few months until an agreement was reached in December 2018 to terminate his contract, which was still valid for almost three and a half years.

International

For Sweden , Berglund took part in the U18 Junior Ice Hockey World Championship in 2006 and the U20 Junior World Championships in 2007 and 2008 . He was also in Sweden's squad at the 2009 and 2011 World Championships , where he won the bronze and silver medals with the team.
