Dominik Kahun (born July 2, 1995 in Planá u Mariánských Lázní ) is a German - Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Buffalo Sabers from the National Hockey League since February 2020 and plays for them in the position of the center .
Career
Dominik Kahun took his first steps on ice skates in the Marienbad ice rink before he moved to Germany with his mother when he was a young student. There he played for two years in the junior division of 1. EV Weiden before he joined the junior team of HC Plzeň in 1929 for one season . From there in 2008 he went to the youth department of Jungadler Mannheim . There Kahun was immediately one of the top performers, was top scorer of the school league in the 2010/11 season (237 points in 35 games) and won the championship title in his age group in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
In the 2011/12 season Kahun played with the young eagles in Germany's highest junior ice hockey league, the DNL , and won the title with Mannheim there too. There he was again the top scorer of the season with 57 points in 36 games. Together with Leon Draisaitl , he has since been one of the greatest talents in German ice hockey. Before the 2012/13 season, the scouts from North America noticed Kahun. From the Sudbury Wolves he was selected in the second round of the CHL Import Draft in 39th place. The first season in North America closed Kahun with 40 points from 58 games. He also won the Junior Club World Cup with the Sudbury Wolves in 2012, an international junior tournament for club teams.
For the 2014/15 season , Kahun moved to EHC Red Bull Munich . He was also eligible to play from September 2014 thanks to a funding license for the DEL2 cooperation partner of Munich, SC Riessersee . He quickly asserted himself in Munich and over the next four years became a permanent staff member and one of the team's most important scorers, winning the German championship three times in a row between 2016 and 2018 . Shortly after winning the third title, the striker signed a two-year entry contract with the Chicago Blackhawks from the National Hockey League on April 28, 2018 . At the beginning of the 2018/19 season , Kahun made his debut for Chicago in the NHL and scored his first goal a few days later. He finished his first season in North America with 37 scorer points from 82 appearances before he was transferred to the Pittsburgh Penguins in June 2019 in exchange for Finnish defender Olli Määttä . In addition, Pittsburgh received a five-round vote in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft . With the Penguins he was only active until the trade deadline in February 2020, when he was given to the Buffalo Sabers and Conor Sheary and Evan Rodrigues moved to Pittsburgh.
International
From his nomination for the U17 national team, Kahun regularly took part in the Junior World Championships for Germany.
In April 2014 he made his debut for the men's national team as part of the preparation for the men's world championship . In 2016 he took part in a World Cup for the first time, followed by further participations in 2017 , 2018 and 2019 . At the 2018 Winter Olympics , he won the silver medal with the national team.
