Career
In his youth, Henri Jokiharju played in the youth department of Jokerit from Helsinki before he moved to Tappara Tampere for the 2015/16 season and competed with their U20 in the Jr. A SM-liiga , the highest junior league in Finland. The defender then decided to move to North America, where he played for the Portland Winterhawks in the Western Hockey League (WHL), which had selected him in 25th position in the 2016 CHL Import Draft .
In his debut season in the Winterhawks jersey, he recorded 48 scorer points , so that he was considered in the following NHL Entry Draft 2017 in 29th place by the Chicago Blackhawks . For the time being, however, the Finn returned to Portland for another season, where he significantly increased his personal statistics to 71 points and a plus / minus statistic of +47 and was subsequently appointed to the Second All-Star Team of the Western Conference.
In June 2018, Jokiharju signed an entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. In the subsequent preparation for the 2018/19 season, the defender earned a place in the team's squad and made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) at the beginning of October 2018 , where he promptly recorded five assists in his first three games. In the further course of the season he was in roughly equal parts in the NHL and American Hockey League (AHL) on the ice, with the Blackhawks farm team , the Rockford IceHogs .
After his first NHL season, the Finn was handed over to the Buffalo Sabers in July 2019 , who in return sent Alexander Nylander to Chicago.
International
Jokiharju gained his first international experience in 2015 when he participated with the Finnish selection at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and the World U-17 Hockey Challenge .
