Carter Hutton (born December 19, 1985 in Thunder Bay , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the Buffalo Sabers in the National Hockey League (NHL) since July 2018 .
Career
Hutton was at the beginning of his career between 2006 and 2010 for the university team of the University of Massachusetts Lowell in the Hockey East , which is integrated into the game operations of the NCAA , in goal. In March 2010, the Canadian was signed by the Philadelphia Flyers from the National Hockey League , but given directly to the Adirondack Phantoms farm team . There he played four games in the second-rate American Hockey League (AHL) before he was given up to the San Jose Sharks in the run-up to the 2010/11 season . There, too, the left catcher was used exclusively in the AHL and played 22 games for the Worcester Sharks .
In August 2011 Hutton was transferred to the Rockford IceHogs within the AHL , but also had some missions for the Toledo Walleye in the lower class ECHL in the 2011/12 season . In the 2012/13 season, the Canadian was on the ice for the first time in the NHL when he was called to the starting squad in April 2013 for a game by the Chicago Blackhawks , the cooperation partner of the IceHogs . He then stayed for both the remaining two games of the regular season and the first five games of the play-offs in the NHL squad. The Blackhawks eventually won the Stanley Cup later in the play-offs , but Hutton's name is not engraved on the cup due to his few appearances.
In July 2013 he moved to the Nashville Predators and in the following season , against the background of the injury-related loss of regular goalkeeper Pekka Rinne , he immediately got 40 appearances in the NHL and recorded a catch rate of 91% and an average goal against goal of 2, 62 goals. In the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons Hutton acted behind Rinne as a substitute goalkeeper before he received no new contract in Nashville and as a result joined the St. Louis Blues as a free agent in July 2016 . In the jersey of the Blues, he led all goalkeepers in the league in the 2017/18 season with a catch rate of 93.1% and an average of 2.09 goals against.
Nevertheless, his expiring contract was not extended in the summer of 2018, so that in July 2018 he signed a three-year contract with the Buffalo Sabers as a free agent . There he acted as “number 1” for the first time in his career in the 2018/19 season and played 50 games, of which he was able to win 18. In the following year he shared the working time in roughly equal parts with Linus Ullmark .
