In July 2013, Miller was signed by the Kings and initially sent to the Manchester Monarchs farm team in the American Hockey League , where he spent the following two playing years. At the end of the 2014/15 season he won the prestigious Calder Cup with the Monarchs . In return, the Californians received Milan Lucic . In the Bruins franchise Miller managed to jump into the NHL, although he continued to spend parts of the season in the AHL with the Providence Bruins . For the 2016/17 season he finally managed to establish himself in Boston's squad.

In June 2017, Miller was selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft . With the team he surprisingly reached the final of the Stanley Cup in the 2018 playoffs , but lost to the Washington Capitals there . In addition, in the debut season he was one of the many Golden Knights players who were able to significantly increase their personal statistics, so he recorded 41 scorer points and thus became the team's best defender. After another year in Nevada, he was handed over to the Buffalo Sabers in June 2019 , which in return sent a second-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2021 and a five-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2022 to Las Vegas.
