Victor Olofsson (born July 18, 1995 in Örnsköldsvik ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Buffalo Sabers from the National Hockey League since April 2018 and plays for them in the position of winger .

Career

Victor Olofsson was born in Örnsköldsvik and passed through the youth department of MODO Hockey in his hometown . He made his debut for the club's U20 in the 2012/13 season in the J20 SuperElit , Sweden's highest junior league. There he convinced the following year with 53 scorer points from 44 games, so that he also came to the first eleven appearances for MODO in the Svenska Hockeyligan (SHL), the highest-ranking professional league in his home country. Then he considered the Buffalo Sabers in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft in 181st position. In the following season 2014/15, apart from a short loan at Timrå IK and sporadic appearances in the U20 , the attacker was mainly used for MODO in the SHL. There he subsequently established himself as a top performer, he was the top goalscorer (14) and scorer (29) of his team in the 2015/16 season, but could not prevent relegation to the second-class Allsvenskan . He was also selected in the KHL Junior Draft 2016 in 43rd place by HK CSKA Moscow . Due to his shown performances, however, Olofsson stayed in the SHL by joining the Frölunda HC . With the Indians , he won the Champions Hockey League in the 2016/17 season , before he significantly increased his personal statistics again the following year. With 27 goals scored, he led the entire league and was therefore honored with the Håkan Loob Trophy .

The Buffalo Sabers took these achievements as an opportunity to equip the winger with an entry-level contract in April 2018 . Olofsson also led their farm team , the Rochester Americans from the American Hockey League (AHL), in the 2018/19 season with 30 goals and 63 scorer points, making his debut for the Sabers in the National Hockey League (NHL) in March 2019. gave. During the preparation for the 2019/20 season, he earned a regular place at these and has since been regularly employed in the NHL. In the first 13 games he recorded ten points scorer and was therefore honored as NHL rookie of the month October. After he had topped the rookie scorer list at the end of the year, he was given the award again for the month of December. Ultimately, at the end of the shortened season, he placed fourth among the best rookies scorers with 42 points .

International

On an international level, Olofsson made his debut for the Swedish U20 national team at the U20 World Cup in 2015 , where he finished fourth with the team. As part of the Euro Hockey Tour of the 2017/18 season, he also played for the senior national team of the Tre Kronor .
