Career

youth

Jake McCabe was born into a hockey family, so both his father and older brother were college-level active. In his youth he played for the Eau Claire Memorial High School in his hometown, before moving to the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP), the central talent factory of the US Ice Hockey Federation, at the beginning of the 2009/10 season . With the NTDP McCabe took part in the game operations of the United States Hockey League and also played a variety of games against college and junior teams in the country. In addition, the selections of the NTDP also act as the junior national team of the USA, so he took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2010 and the U18 World Championship in 2011 and won the gold medal there with the team.

After two seasons, he retired from the NTDP due to old age and returned home when he enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for a sociology degree while also participating in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) gaming operations with the Wisconsin Badgers . After his freshman year, in which he came to 12 scorer points in 26 games , he was selected in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in 44th position by the Buffalo Sabers . As a result, McCabe stayed two more years at the University of Wisconsin, in which he was elected Master of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in 2013 and the First All-Star Team of the Big Ten Conference in 2014. He also took part in the 2013 U20 World Cup with the U20 national team in his home country , led the team to the gold medal as team captain and was elected to the tournament's All-Star Team.

Buffalo Sabers

After the end of the 2013-14 college season, McCabe signed a three-year entry contract with the Buffalo Sabers in April 2014 . The defender promptly made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) and came to seven missions by the end of the season. He was then called up for the first time in the senior national team of the USA and took part in the 2014 World Cup, in which Team USA finished sixth. The season 2014/15 McCabe spent up to two NHL games with the Rochester Americans , the farm team of the Sabers from the American Hockey League . At the beginning of the 2015/16 season , however, the defender established himself in the NHL line-up and came to a total of 77 missions with the Sabers. He then represented his country at the 2016 World Cup , where the team finished fourth.

In August 2019, McCabe signed a new two-year contract in Buffalo that should earn him an average annual salary of $ 2.85 million.
