Jiří Holík

Jiří Holík (born July 9, 1944 in Německý Brod , Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia ) is a former ice hockey player who has played for HC Dukla Jihlava over 500 games in the 1st division of Czechoslovakia and over 300 games in the jersey of the Czechoslovak national team .

Career

Jiří Holík began his career in his hometown with Jiskra Havlíčkův Brod . In 1963 he moved to the army club Dukla Jihlava for his army service, to which he remained loyal until 1978. With Jihlava he won a total of seven league titles (1967-72 and 1974) and scored 283 goals in 553 league games. Because of his success, he was allowed to move to Germany in 1978 . He played two seasons for SB Rosenheim in the ice hockey Bundesliga before moving to Vienna for WAT Stadlau Vienna . In 1985 he finally ended his playing career at Wiener EV .

From 1964 on he took part in international championships for his home country. He won three gold, five silver and three bronze medals in 14 participations in world championships . Other highlights of his career were four participations in Winter Olympics : in 1968 and 1976 he won the Olympic silver medal and in 1964 and 1972 the bronze medal. He also took part in the Canada Cup 1976 , in which the Czechoslovaks were able to beat the then overpowering Canadians in the preliminary round. In 319 international matches, Holík scored 132 goals, placing him third in the IIHF international ranking. He is also the ice hockey player with the most appearances in A-World Championships.

After retiring as a player, Holík worked as a coach. In 1999 he was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in the Player category.

Jiří Holík comes from a family who are crazy about ice hockey. His nephew Robert Holík and his brother Jaroslav Holík also played ice hockey successfully alongside him .
