Jaroslav Benák (born April 3, 1962 in Havlíčkův Brod , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player and current coach .

Career

Jaroslav Benák began his career as an ice hockey player with ASD Dukla Jihlava , for whose senior team he was active from 1981 to 1990 in the first division , the highest Czechoslovak division. With his team he became Czechoslovak champion four times in a row in 1982, 1983, 1984 and 1985 . For the 1990/91 season , the defender moved to SaiPa Lappeenranta from the Finnish SM-liiga . With his team he had to accept relegation to the second-class I-divisioona at the end of the season , in which he also began the 1991/92 season , before he moved to SG Cortina from the Italian A2 series during the year . After another season in Cortina, the two-time Olympian returned to his homeland and played in the 1993/94 season for AC ZPS Zlín from the Czech extra league, which was newly founded after the division of Czechoslovakia . The following season he also spent in the extra league , but this time with his ex-club Dukla Jihlava.

In the 1995/96 season Benák was on the ice for the Chamonix Hockey Club in the Elite Ligue , the then top French division. The following season he spent at BK Havlíčkův Brod in the second Czech division . From 1998 to 2001 he competed in the fourth German division, the Ice Hockey Regionalliga , for the EHC Memmingen and the EC Peiting . The 2001-02 season began, the Czech with the EC Peiting in the third-class ice hockey league , before returning in the course of the season for HC Rebel Havlíčkův Brod, who in the meantime the Czech in the third league, the second národní hokejová league , took . At the end of the season he ended his active career at the age of 40.

In the 2008/09 season Benák worked as an assistant coach for the third division club HC Žďár nad Sázavou . Since then he has worked in the same position for his ex-club HC Rebel Havlíčkův Brod in the 1st division.

International

For Czechoslovakia Benák took part in the world championships in 1983 , 1985 , 1986 and 1987 . In addition, he was in the squad of his country at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo and in 1988 in Calgary and 1987 in the Canada Cup . At the 1983 World Cup and the 1984 Winter Games, he and his team won the silver medal, the gold medal at the 1985 World Cup and the bronze medal at the 1987 World Cup.
