As part of the merger of the two regional league groups North and South into a single-track league, there were several teams that retreated into the lower leagues under this sign. The Herford EC withdrew to the Regionalliga NRW , the KEV Hannover , the EC Timmendorfer Strand and the Adendorfer EC to the Regionalliga Nord-Ost and the ESC Erfurt to the Sachsenliga. Before the season, the EHC Neue Eisbären Berlin and the FTV Hamburg Crocodiles were dissolved due to financial problems.

The teams EV Regensburg , EHC Wolfsburg , EV Duisburg and ETC Crimmitschau were promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga . As a result, only the play-off participants Dresdner Eislöwen and Ratinger Ice Aliens of the league remained from the north , while from the south ERC Selb , EC Peiting , Deggendorfer EC , EV Landshut , EHC Bad Aibling and ESV Kaufbeuren through play-off participation held the class directly and also the teams ERC Haßfurt Sharks , ESV Bayreuth , Geretsried River Rats and EV Füssen in the relegation against the regional league teams .
