history
VfB Bayreuth (1956 to 1963)
At VfB Bayreuth , ice hockey has been played under the direction of Kurt Loydl since 1956. The game was played on a natural ice surface, which was set up next to the club's own sports area at the Prellmühle. The team played in the district league and 1960/61 in the Upper Franconian League. In 1961, the association planned to build an artificial ice stadium on the same site, but the plan failed due to the lack of support from the city. The ice hockey department subsequently disbanded in 1963. The main club went on in 1969 in BSV Bayreuth in 1898 .
SV Bayreuth until 1993/94
As early as the 1949/50 season, a natural ice rink was set up on the field of the Bayreuth swimming school , on which the SV Bayreuth ice hockey team ("Bayreuth Swimming Club") played an ice hockey game in Bayreuth for the first time since 1935 (opponent: Nuremberg HTC Final score 0: 8th). The club was already a member of the Bavarian Ice Sports Association with its ice hockey team in 1950 . In the higher-class league ice hockey, the SVB's ice hockey department , which was champion of the ice hockey Bayern league in 1979/80, appeared for the first time in the fourth-class regional league in the 1980/81 season before taking part in the 2nd national ice hockey league from 1983/84 . In the 1984/85 season he was promoted to the Bundesliga . After a year in the top division, the team was relegated and played again in the 2nd Bundesliga in 1986/87 . After the costs for the ice hockey department for the Bayreuth swimming club and thus the risk had become too great, the department became an independent club for the 1988/89 season as the Bayreuth ice skating club.

ESV Bayreuth 1994/95 to 2005/06
In the summer of 1994, SV Bayreuth had to stop playing in the 2nd Bundesliga. ESV Bayreuth was founded as a successor and started in the lowest league of the Bavarian Ice Sports Association , the Bavarian District League. In 1997 the ESV reached the third-class 2nd league again through the championship in the Bavarian League . In the 2001/02 season an attempt was made to outsource the league team to a GmbH , but this turned into a financial disaster, so that from 2002/03 ESV Bayreuth continued to play. In the 2002/03 season, ESV Bayreuth had to survive bankruptcy proceedings itself .
After the league license was granted for the 2004/05 season , the license was only granted at the last moment for the 2005/06 season . When the club's board of directors had to apply for preliminary insolvency proceedings on November 29, 2005, the league team's games were stopped at the end of the year by the preliminary insolvency administrator appointed by the Bayreuth District Court. The play operations of the junior teams continued through financial support from private individuals until the end of the season, so that when the teams were taken over by another club, the division into divisions was retained.
