The municipal artificial ice stadium is an ice rink in the city of Bayreuth and home of the German ice hockey club EHC Bayreuth from the DEL2 . The artificial ice stadium is located in the middle of the city's sports park, which also includes the Hans Walter Wild Stadium , the multifunctional Upper Franconian Hall and an indoor swimming pool.

history

The stadium was officially opened on December 22, 1975 and initially offered space for up to 3,000 spectators. The stadium was not roofed until 1981; the wooden roof construction designed by Professor Julius Natterer received an award a year later. However, the stadium was not completely closed, but remained open on two sides.

After the standing room was expanded in 1985 and an additional grandstand was built in 1991, the spectator capacity increased to 4555 seats, of which a total of 1476 seats. In 2014, a VIP room with a view of the ice rink was also built.

use

In the winter months, the ice rink is mainly used by the Bayreuth clubs for ice hockey, curling , figure skating and speed skating . In the summer months the hall is available for street hockey and figure skating .

In previous years, the stadium was the venue for international ice hockey matches on several occasions. Other major events were the German street hockey championship in 2005 and 2006 and the European street hockey championship for U18 juniors in 2009.
