The artificial ice stadium in the Sahnpark is an ice rink in Crimmitschau, Saxony, and is currently home to the ETC Crimmitschau from the DEL2 .

history

As early as 1937/38, the board of the ETC predecessor, EHC Crimmitschau , made initial efforts to build an artificial ice rink with spectators in the Sahnpark. But despite secured funding, this project failed already in the planning phase because of the then mayor of Crimmitschau and was finally done for with the outbreak of the Second World War .

It was not until the GDR that the construction of an artificial ice stadium began as part of the permanent establishment of a league team. In 1963 the construction work had progressed so far that the first competitive games of the ASK Vorwärts Crimmitschau were played - while the public was still closed . A year later, the artificial ice stadium in Sahnpark , which could hold up to 10,000 spectators, was officially opened, which from then on was the scene of the GDR national team on several occasions in addition to the top division matches . Until 1970, a total of ten A-internationals and seven junior and B-internationals were played on the ice of the Crimmitschau artificial ice stadium.

After the decreed withdrawal of the upper league ice hockey from Crimmitschau at the end of 1970, the artificial ice stadium - meanwhile the home of the BSG unit - was henceforth repeatedly used for the final round of the GDR best determination . From 1978 the stadium was the permanent venue for this amateur championship until it was closed in 1990 .

In reunified Germany, the Crimmitschauer Stadium was given a roof in 1994 in order to meet the requirements of the ice hockey game operating company for professional sport. Over the years, the stadium has been renovated again and again, most recently through the renovation of the north stand in summer 2005. Due to the construction on the slope of the Sahnpark, the spectators have to get to their seats from the north entrance via stairs.

By 2010 the stadium had standing room for 6535, as part of a further extensive renovation and the construction of a new cabin wing, the capacity was reduced to 5222 seats, including 121 seats, 56 VIP seats and ten press seats.

On June 20, 2008, the Crimmitschau city council discussed an expansion of the sports complex. The plans provided for the addition of a side building, renewing the access to the stadium and renovating the main building. Overall, the cost of the renovation will amount to around three million euros, 80% of which will be financed by subsidies.

In addition to the EnergieVerbund Arena in Dresden , the stadium was the venue for the 2011 U18 Junior Ice Hockey World Championship . In total, the 10 preliminary round matches of Group A as well as the complete final round of the tournament took place in the arena.

By April 2010, Crimmitschau was the scene of a performance by the DEB selection three times .
