The Kolbenschmidt Arena is an ice rink in Heilbronn , Baden-Württemberg , with a total capacity of 4,000 spectators (800 seats in the main stand and 3200 standing places in the opposite stand). It was inaugurated in November 2002.
history
The Knorr Arena was built in 2002 by the city of Heilbronn according to plans by the Heilbronn architect Jürgen Pils on the foundations of the old ice rink . The shape and the blue color scheme of the building should be reminiscent of an ice cube. The new building cost around 8.2 million euros, with only the foundations and the ice surface with its cooling pipes remaining of the ice rink. The name referred to one of the donors, the food manufacturer Knorr . The leaseholder of the hall is the Heilbronner Falken , who have been playing in the 2nd Bundesliga (today: DEL2) again since the 2007/08 season . In addition to sporting competitions, the 1750 m² ice rink is also open to the public.
Surname
In 2007 the Knorr Arena was renamed the Lavatec Arena after the new main sponsor . Since the insolvency of Lavatec GmbH in spring 2009 and the associated loss of the main sponsor and namesake, the stadium has been renamed Eisstadion Heilbronn . In January 2012, the naming rights to the ice rink were sold to the automotive supplier KSPG for five years . Since then it has been called the Kolbenschmidt Arena .
