Danny Michael Lawson (born October 30, 1947 in Toronto , Ontario , † September 15, 2008 in Calgary , Alberta ) was a Canadian ice hockey player (right winger) who played for the Detroit Red Wings , Minnesota North Stars and Buffalo Sabers in from 1968 to 1977 of the National Hockey League as well as the Philadelphia Blazers , Vancouver Blazers , Calgary Cowboys and Winnipeg Jets in the World Hockey Association .
Career
As a junior he played with the Hamilton Red Wings in the OHA and was able to shine there. So he came in the 1967/68 season on January 10, 1968 for his first NHL mission with the Detroit Red Wings, the only one in this season. The next season he started with the Fort Worth Wings in the CHL , but he was soon used again in Detroit and scored his first goal on October 31, 1968 against the Boston Bruins . The breakthrough he did not succeed and so he was given to the Minnesota North Stars after 40 games . With the North Stars his extraordinary ability flashed again and again, but he could not bring the good performances consistently and was pushed again and again into the farm teams, the Iowa Stars in the CHL and the Cleveland Barons in the AHL . Even in the 1971/72 season , which he spent with the Buffalo Sabers , he did not manage to convince.
It was only with his move to the WHA to the Philadelphia Blazers that he made his breakthrough. With 61 goals he was top scorer in the first season of the new league 1972/73 . Even with the move of the team, which then played as the Vancouver Blazers and later as the Calgary Cowboys , he was one of the top scorers. In 1977, shortly before the end of his career, he joined the Winnipeg Jets with Mike Ford , who gave up Veli-Pekka Ketola , Heikki Riihiranta and Ron Ward .
Lawson came to Germany in the 1980s. In the 1986/87 season he played in the team of the EC Hedos Munich and helped the team to promotion to the second division. There he trained the SV Bayreuth in the following season .
