The Triodos Bank NV is a Dutch financial institution with offices in Germany , Spain , Great Britain , Belgium and a representative office in France . Triodos Bank wants to support projects and companies with social, ecological or cultural added value with the deposits of its customers. The sustainable bank was founded in 1980.

Triodos Bank NV is a public limited company incorporated under Dutch law with its headquarters in Zeist, the Netherlands. It comprises branches and representative offices in six European countries, as well as the subsidiaries Triodos Investment Management and Triodos Private Banking. Together the Triodos Group offers a wide range of services: banking services, fund management, project development, custody business, equity capital, corporate finance and private banking.

As of December 31, 2015, the business volume of the Triodos banking group was around EUR 12.3 billion, it issued over 44,000 (2015) loans and serviced over 700,000 customer accounts in Europe.

Triodos Bank has received the Sustainable Bank of the Year 2009 award from the Financial Times and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a World Bank organization. It was selected from 165 institutes from 42 countries.

Triodos Bank Shares Management Foundation (SAAT)

The Foundation for the Administration of Triodos Shares (Dutch: Stichting Administratiekantoor Aandelen Triodos Bank / SAAT) manages the shares of the bank. Private individuals and institutional investors who want to participate in the bank can acquire so-called share-like rights through the foundation. However, no owner of these stock-like rights is authorized to hold more than 10% of the company shares and the voting right is limited to 1000 votes. The largest shareholders of Triodos Bank currently include Coöperatieve Centrale Raiffeisen-Boerenleenbank BA and Delta Lloyd Levensverzekering NV

Like the German GLS Bank , Triodos Bank refers in its work to the anthroposophical principle of social threefolding .

The bank allocates its customers' deposits exclusively to the real economy and finances companies, organizations and projects that it believes contribute to ecological, social or cultural change. In accordance with this philosophy, Triodos Bank in Germany purchases electricity from the eco-energy provider Naturstrom AG .

history

In 1968 Adriaan Deking Dura (economist), Dieter Brüll (professor of tax law), Lex Bos (business consultant) and Rudolf Mees (banker) decided to develop a model for the sustainable management of money in the Netherlands. From this merger, the Triodos Foundation (SAAT) emerged in 1971 and the independent Triodos Bank NV in 1980. Since then, the bank has helped shape and promote sustainable development. It was one of the first banks to invest in renewable energies. In 1990 she launched funds for the first time through Triodos Investment Management. During the 1990s, microfinance funds were introduced for developing countries. The bank expanded its fund portfolio to include fair trade, SRI (Socially Responsible Investment), real estate and culture. Currently the bank u. a. Funds in the fields of renewable energy, SRI and microfinance. In the 1990s, Triodos Bank expanded its business with the opening of a Belgian and English branch. The German branch of Triodos Bank NV started at the end of 2009. Previously, the bank had run a representative office for loan brokerage in Germany with Triodos Finanz GmbH. Triodos Bank Germany is a direct bank . The bank only grants loans to companies, organizations and projects that it considers to be socially, ecologically and culturally oriented.
