The league season 1975/76 was played like the preseason in a group south and north and a group-wide promotion round. The EV Landsberg became champion and climber. The EHC 70 Munich moved up to the 2nd Bundesliga, as this was increased to twelve teams.

The group south played a single round with 12 participants. The group north first played a preliminary round with 9 participants, then the first 5 of the preliminary round a final round. Then the first four of both groups played in two promotion round groups. The winners of these groups determined the direct promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in two games.

The last one in the table was to be relegated from the South group, and no relegation was planned from the North group.

Oberliga Nord

The teams of EHC Nord Berlin and FASS Berlin went into the re-established ice hockey department of the Berlin FC Preussen .

After the withdrawal of ERV Essen , the upper league started with 8 teams. After the season had already started, the Essen EC was included as the ninth team in the Oberliga Nord. Two weeks after this decision, the Essen team played their first game of the season.
