The 1991/92 season was the 18th season of the I-divisioona , the second highest Finnish ice hockey division . Kiekko Espoo rose as a second division champion directly in the SM-liiga .

In the main round, each of the twelve teams played a total of 44 games. The first place in the main round rose directly to the SM-liiga. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
