The 1984/85 season was the eleventh season of the I-divisioona , the second highest Finnish ice hockey division . JYP Jyväskylä rose as a second division champion directly into the SM-liiga . KalPa Kuopio , KooKoo and TuTo Hockey qualified for the SM liiga relegation , in which all three teams failed. Vaasan Sport was relegated to the third division.

In the main round, each of the twelve teams played a total of 44 games. The first placed rose directly to the SM-liiga. The teams in places 2 to 4 qualified for the SM liiga relegation. The last placed in the main round rose to the third division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
