The 1953/54 season of the first division was the eleventh regular staging of the top ice hockey division in Czechoslovakia . The ZSJ Spartak Praha Sokolovo prevailed with nine points in the final tournament . For the capital city, it was their second Czechoslovak championship title .

In contrast to the previous season, the number of participants in the three main round groups was reduced from seven teams to six. Due to the implementation of the first and second leg within the groups, the total number of games per team in the main round was 10 games. The two best teams in each group qualified for the final tournament, which was played in a simple round and the winners became champions. The tournament for places 7 to 12 held in the previous year was canceled. Since the next season was to be played with a main round in two groups of eight teams each, the last two were relegated.

The top scorer in the league was player- coach Vladimír Zábrodský of champions ZSJ Spartak Sokolovo Prague, who scored 30 goals in his team's 15 games.
