The season 1956/57 of the 1st league was the 14th regular staging of the top ice hockey division in Czechoslovakia . With 41 points after the main round, Rudá Hvězda Brno prevailed. For the team it was their third Czechoslovak championship .

In contrast to the previous season, the 14 teams played the main round in a joint group. After the first and second leg, the total number of games per team was 26 games. The championship leader was at the end of the season. While the last two clubs were relegated to the 2nd division due to the league reduction to twelve teams for the next season, the third and fourth from bottom played together with the winners of the two 2nd division groups in the 1st division qualification for the next season on.

1st league qualification

The teams of Dukla Jihlava , Baník OKD Ostrava , Tatra Smíchov and Spartak Královo Pole played in a simple round for admission to the 1st division or to remain in this for the following season. The first two prevailed with four and three points respectively ahead of Tatra Smíchov (also three points) and the pointless Spartak Královo Pole and thus reached the first division.
