Offender-victim-compensation is the second solo album by the German rapper JAW . It was released on May 21, 2010 on the Flavamatic Recordz label and is distributed by Rough Trade Distribution GmbH .

background

JAW released his debut album, Shock for Life, in August 2006. Three years later he recorded an EP with rapper Hollywood Hank and the album Laugh and the World Weeps with You with his group PCP, before starting work on his second solo album. In mid-February 2010, the publication of perpetrator-victim-settlement was announced with a teaser for May 2010. The full production of the album took place within a year.

concept

Rapper JAW in 2010

With the title perpetrator-victim-compensation the motive of revenge should be taken up. JAW attributes various psychological conflicts and processes of suffering that he has experienced to the behavior of people around him. The album is supposed to be a "blow to justice" and its content is to take revenge on special people and humanity in general.

“The world didn't do anything to me, but people are so naive and so stupid in terms of their intellectual constellation and their fundamental understanding that they step on other people's feet without even realizing it. They then label things that they do not understand as laughable or abnormal and disgusting and want nothing to do with them. This behavior, of course, leads to inner isolation and the feeling of being inferior and excluded from this instinctive groupthink. That in turn means pain that others have caused and that you have to live with yourself. "

Texts

Following the intro preliminary talk , the title Meine Fans follows , in which JAW characterizes its listeners. He describes the majority of his fans as intelligent (“My fans are little geniuses, one clue is enough to be able to recognize the big patterns”), suicidal, non-conformist and poorly outgoing (“Many of them don't get along with normal people, they feel themselves alone and suffer endless torments. "). In addition, many are characterized by drug use ("They take drugs to tolerate fellow students , they take drugs against Weltschmerz and collapse.") And an affinity for black humor . In an interview, JAW, when asked about the song Meine Fans , stated that there was a Weisse Scheisse movement whose supporters are not a single group, but consist of identity-seeking and aggressive young people.

production

The bulk of the beats was JAW itself produces . The beats for the titles Preliminary Talk , TOA I , Legacy (Skit) , Excuses , Elena , Let You Go , TOA II , Requiem (Skit) and Time come from him. Cheebabeatz was responsible for the production of the video single Meine Fans . The producer also contributed three beats to Peet. These are to be assigned to the songs Conceptless , Beyond Good and Evil and Dokta Jotta . Blazin Hand was responsible for the background music for Cymbalta . Most recently, JAW chose Kein Star , Das dreckige Leben , Optimist and Healed productions by Nowak for the titles .

marketing

At the same time as the announcement of the publication of perpetrator-victim compensation , the label Weisse Scheisse made the title Disabled Child available for free on the Internet as a so-called "Freetrack". In addition, a snippet in which the songs on the album are played to give the listener an impression of the album was made available on the Internet.

On May 25, a video for the song Meine Fans was released. This was also put up for election for the TV program MTV Urban on the music channel MTV . Another video was made for the title Elena . This was put into circulation in early July. In June 2011 Elena was visually implemented again in an unplugged version for the website 16bars.de .

criticism

Offender-victim compensation was rated positively by the editorial team of the Rap.de website. JAW moves on the album in "sarcastic distance to itself" and representatives of the German hip-hop scene. He also reflects on his own situation and gives his critical view on various topics. TOA I is rated positively by the editor Lisa. The descriptions of the musician are lovingly detailed and can be experienced. Both the description of the revenge scenario and the changing accentuation to illustrate different emotional states have so far not been received in a similar way by any other German rapper. TOA 1 can be compared to the song Kim by the American rapper Eminem . Even Elena wear features of the Eminem-piece in which this describes the fictional murder of his wife. Most of the other tracks on the album, such as TOA 2 , do not reach the quality of TOA 1 . The beat of Konzeptlos is described as minimalist and JAW's presentation as bored. Still, the song is very entertaining. Also, no star can amuse the listener. The guest posts are solid, with Mach One standing out positively. Compared to his first solo album Schock für's Leben , JAW has developed enormously in terms of the content of his lyrics, musically and his rap performance.

The German hip-hop magazine Juice described the album as a “manifesto of misanthropy ” and awarded four and a half of a possible six “crowns”. Offender-victim balancing can be seen as JAW's deep psychological self-examination. The rapper stands for “cynicism and biting humor in a world full of stupidity” and, in relation to his lecture, stands out as a “strong technician”. The editors also received praise for the productions by Nowak, Peet, Cheeba Beats, Blazin Hands and, above all, JAW itself. However, offender-victim compensation is not a publication that appeals to the general public. In summary, the album can be seen as a further development of the musician compared to his previous records.

From Alexander Engelen's point of view, JAW can be seen as the German Eminem. In a review for Laut.de , the latter awarded four out of a possible five evaluation points to offender-victim compensation . JAW, like Eminem, has a keen eye for the details of human abysses. His content, such as the description of murder fantasies, the adaptation of his voice to the topic and the hook lines , which are almost annoying, form parallels to the American. The guest contributions, above all Absztrakkt , are also positive . At the end of his review, Engelen wrote: “'Offender-victim compensation' must have been an act of strength. Not only because of the manual work, but also because of the rather difficult topics: anxiety, suicide, anti-depressants, fantasies of revenge, closed asylum, self-doubt and a deep lack of understanding of reality. JAW has obviously not (yet) found it, but has created an artistic feat out of his precarious soul situation. "
