As in the previous season, the league was played with ten teams. Since each team played two home and two away games against each group opponent, the total number of games per team was 36 games. Then the best four teams played the champions in the playoffs. While the semi-finals and the game for third place took place in best-of-five mode, the final was played in best-of-seven mode. The bottom of the table had to compete in qualifying for the first division for the following season against the three winners of the second division groups.
The winners of the three second division groups , VTŽ Chomutov , VŽKG Ostrava / Vítkovice and Lokomotíva Bučina Zvolen , as well as the second in group A, ZVVZ Milevsko and the last in the 1st league Motor České Budějovice played in a round trip for inclusion in 1. League or remaining in it for the following season. The first three teams prevailed and played in the first division a year later. Originally the B-team of Dukla Jihlava was first in group A, but the team was not eligible to move up to the first division, so that Chomutov and ZVVZ Milevsko moved up.
