The season 1952/53 of the 1st league was the tenth regular staging of the top ice hockey division in Czechoslovakia . With nine points in the final tournament, TJ Spartak Praha Sokolovo prevailed. For the city dwellers, it was their first ever Czechoslovak championship title .

In contrast to the previous season, the number of participants in the three main round groups was increased from six teams to seven. Due to the implementation of the two-way leg within the groups, the total number of games per team in the main round was 12 games. The two best teams in each group qualified for the final tournament, which was played in a simple round and the winners became champions. In addition, the teams that had completed the main round in their respective groups in 3rd and 4th place qualified for the tournament for 7th to 12th places , as well as the last of group B.
