Bruno Cathala
Bruno Cathala (* 1963 ) is a French game designer .
Cathala began developing games in the early 2000s. In an interview with The Dice Tower , the game designer explained that luck played a major role in the beginning of his career: his first game design, the card game Lawless! , was published in 2002 by the game publisher Eurogames / Descartes (published in Germany in 2003 under the title Das war der Wilde Westen ). The publisher immediately expressed interest in other games and within a few months Cathala developed the games War & Sheep , Drake & Drake and Tony & Tino , all of which were also published by Eurogames / Descartes .
Cathala's ludography now comprises more than 30 titles, most of the games were created in cooperation with other game authors: Bruno Faidutti (including Boomtown ), Serge Laget (including Shadows over Camelot ), Ludovic Maublanc (including Mr. Jack , Dice Town ) and Sébastien Pauchon and Malcolm Braff (et al. Jamaica , Animalia ).
The author's games have been on the recommendation list for Game of the Year five times, and many have been nominated for further awards. In particular, the Shadow over Camelot (2005, Days of Wonder ), developed in collaboration with Serge Laget, garnered a lot of critical acclaim. Among other things, in 2005 it was awarded the Austrian Game Prize for Games in the category "Hit games for experts" and in 2006 it received the "Special Prize Fantastic Game" from the Game of the Year Critics' Prize.
Cathala has lived in Saint-Pierre-en-Faucigny in the Haute-Savoie département in eastern France since 1986 .
