Sébastien Pauchon

Sébastien Pauchon (born June 4, 1971 ) is a Swiss game designer and publisher .

biography

Pauchon began developing his own games between 2002 and 2003. In 2003, he submitted one of his ideas to the “Concours de créateurs de jeux”, a competition for game developers held in Boulogne-Billancourt (near Paris ). Since the game made it into the top 20 places, Pauchon decided to go to Paris for the 2004 awards ceremony. There he met the French game designers Bruno Cathala and Serge Laget , who this year for their game Du Balais! (Published in 2006 by Pro Ludo).

At the beginning of 2005, Cathala invited Pauchon to a game meeting of the French game designer Bruno Faidutti . At the meeting, Pauchon also met Cyril Demaegd from Ystari Games and presented him with his game Calife et Marchands , the prototype of the 2006 Yspahan . In the summer of 2005, Pauchon attended the Göttingen game designers' meeting and received a scholarship for young authors . As part of the project, he completed internships at various game publishers, including Zoch , Hans im Glück and Ravensburger, as well as at the German Games Archive .

In the summer of 2006, Pauchon founded the game publisher GameWorks together with the Swiss jazz pianist and game designer Malcolm Braff . In October 2006, Yspahan Pauchon's first publication was released by Ystari Games . The game received very good reviews and was nominated for several important awards in the following years, including 2007 for the “ Game of the Year ” and the “ German Games Prize ”. In November 2006, Animalia was released and the first game published by GameWorks. Animalia is the first collaboration between Pauchon, Braff and Cathala and was created as part of an advertising campaign for the Swiss insurance company Assura . In 2007 Pauchon, Braff and Cathala published their second joint game Jamaica at GameWorks, which was also commissioned by Assura. The game was included in the recommendation list for “Game of the Year 2008” and was also nominated for the French critics ' award “ As d'Or - Jeu de l'Année ”.

Another publication by Pauchon at Ystari Games followed in 2008 with Metropolys , the game is also on the recommendation list for “Game of the Year 2008” and was also nominated for the “German Games Prize”. The Jaipur card game , which was again published by GameWorks in 2009, was included in the “Game of the Year - Recommendation List 2010” and won the “2010 à la carte card game award ”.

Pauchon lives with his family in Vevey in the French-speaking canton of Vaud and is a member of the game authors' guild .
