Saint-Pierre-en-Faucigny is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Saint-Pierre-en-Faucigny is located at 471 m , east of La Roche-sur-Foron , about 24 kilometers southeast of the city of Geneva (as the crow flies). The village extends at the outlet of the Borne river from the Bornes Alps into the broad lowlands of the Arve valley , in the Pays Rochois and in the Faucigny .
The area of the 14.91 km² municipal area includes a section of the lower Arve valley and the Bornes Alps. The northern part of the municipal area is taken up by the plains of the Arve. The border is partly formed by the Arve, partly by its left tributary Borne. From the Arve the communal soil extends southward over the valley plain and the adjoining slope to the edge of the terrace of Saint-Laurent. A narrow tip extends southeast into the Gorges d'Eveaux , a deep gorge in which the Borne breaks through the northernmost chain of the Bornes Alps. This gorge is flanked to the east by the Pointe d'Andey , on the slope of which, at around 1500 m, the highest point of Saint-Pierre-en-Faucigny is reached.
In addition to the actual Saint-Pierre, Saint-Pierre-en-Faucigny consists of various villages and hamlets, namely:
- Passeirier ( 458 m ) in the Arve plain
- La Serte ( 450 m ) in the Arve plain
- Saint-Maurice-de-Rumilly ( 480 m ) on the southern edge of the stone pine plain
- Blansin ( 460 m ) in the Arve plain
- Toisinge ( 450 m ) in the Arve plain
- Delairaz ( 750 m ) on the eastern slope of the Gorges d'Eveaux
- Prêlaz ( 1020 m ) on a ledge high above the Gorges d'Eveaux
Neighboring municipalities of Saint-Pierre-en-Faucigny are Arenthon in the north, Bonneville in the east, Glières-Val-de-Borne and Saint-Laurent in the south and Amancy in the west.
history
Traces of the human presence in the Neolithic have been found in the municipality . The current municipality was only created in 1965 with the merger of the previously independent municipalities of Saint-Pierre-de-Rumilly, Saint-Maurice-de-Rumilly and Passeirier. Saint-Pierre-en-Faucigny was chosen as the new name.
Attractions
The village church of Saint-Pierre was built in the classical style. The Chapelle d'Eveaux is located near Delairaz. There are several castles around Saint-Pierre-en-Faucigny, including the Château de Cohendier (originally from the Middle Ages, 12th to 15th centuries, restored in the 19th century), the 13th century Château de Chuet (rebuilt and enlarged in the 19th century), the Château d'Arcine from the 13th century and the castle in Passeirier. Delairaz and Prêlaz are characteristic mountain villages.
