Combloux is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Combloux is located at 971 m , south of Sallanches , about 53 kilometers southeast of the city of Geneva (as the crow flies). The village extends in a panoramic location with a view of Mont Blanc on the western slope of the Arve Valley , around 400 m above the Sallanches basin, in the Savoy Alps on the ascent to the Megève pass, in the south-east of Faucigny .
The area of the 16.95 km² municipal area includes a section of the upper Arve valley. The northern border runs along the slope below the village. From here the community area extends over the relatively gently sloping slope of Combloux, partly with meadows and pastures, partly with forest, to the Croix des Salles ridge ( 1757 m ) west of the Megève pass. A narrow tip extends to the southeast on the slope of Mont d'Arbois , where the highest point of Combloux is reached at 1784 m .
Combloux includes various hamlet and holiday settlements as well as individual farms, including:
- Médon ( 975 m ) on a ledge over the Arve valley
- Le Pelloux ( 940 m ) on the Combloux terrace
- Ormaret ( 1125 m ) on the eastern slope of the Croix des Salles
- Gémoens ( 1010 m ) on the northern slope of Mont d'Arbois
- Prairy ( 950 m ) on the north slope of Mont d'Arbois
Combloux's neighboring communities are Domancy in the north, Saint-Gervais-les-Bains in the east, Demi-Quartier and Megève in the south and Sallanches in the west.
history
Combloux is first mentioned in the 13th century under the name Comblo . The place name is possibly derived from the Latin word cumulus (pile, hill).
Attractions
The village church of Saint-Nicolas was built in 1704 in the baroque style. It has a baroque altar (18th century) and a bell tower from the 19th century. The Chapelle de Médonnet is located in Médon. Combloux is characterized by numerous houses and remarkable farms in the traditional Savoyard style.

With 2106 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Combloux is one of the smaller communities in the Haute-Savoie department. Since the mid-1970s, thanks to the attractive residential area, there has been a significant increase in population. Numerous single-family houses and holiday settlements were built outside the town center.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Combloux was a predominantly agricultural village. Today there are various small business enterprises. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area, especially in Sallanches and Cluses. In the last few decades Combloux has developed into an important holiday destination. The municipality specializes in both summer and winter tourism (various ski lifts) and is closely linked to the ski areas of Megève and La Giettaz.
The place is well developed in terms of traffic. It is located on the main road D 1212, which leads from Sallanches via Megève to Albertville . Other road links exist with Domancy and Saint-Gervais-les-Bains. The closest connection to the A 40 motorway is around nine km away.
