La Tour is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
La Tour is located at 621 m , about 23 kilometers east-southeast of the city of Geneva (as the crow flies). The village extends in Faucigny , in the valley basin of the Sallaz landscape at the northwest foot of the Môle , in the Savoy Alps , near the Lac de Môle.
The area of the 7.73 km² large municipal area includes a section of the Faucigny. The main part of the municipal area is taken up by the wide valley of the Sallaz between the Massif des Brasses and the Môle. This basin, in which the Lac de Môle lies, is drained to the west by a side stream of the Foron . In a narrow corner, the community soil extends north to below the Pointe des Brasses (up to 1400 m ) and includes the valley of the Ruisseau d'Entreverges . To the south, the municipal spell extends over a densely wooded slope to a secondary peak of the Môle. Here, at 1627 m, the highest elevation of La Tour is reached.
La Tour includes various hamlet settlements, including La Tour d'en Bas ( 625 m ) and Chez Gavillet ( 610 m ) in the Sallaz basin and Entreverges ( 615 m ) in the narrow valley furrow at the transition to Saint-Jeoire. Neighboring municipalities of La Tour are Viuz-en-Sallaz in the north, Saint-Jeoire in the east, Saint-Jean-de-Tholome in the south and Peillonnex and Ville-en-Sallaz in the west.
history
The area of La Tour was already settled in prehistoric times. In the Middle Ages , La Tour was part of the Faucigny domain. As part of the Dauphiné, the place came to France in 1349, but was given to the Counts of Savoy in an exchange of countries in the Treaty of Paris in 1355 . After that, La Tour shared the fate of Savoy .

With 1275 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), La Tour is one of the smaller communities in the Haute-Savoie department. A significant increase in population has been recorded in the last few decades.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, La Tour was a predominantly agricultural village. Today there are various local small and medium-sized businesses. Numerous workers are commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area, especially in the Geneva-Annemasse area.
The village is very well developed in terms of traffic. It is close to the D907 road from Annemasse to Taninges . Further road connections exist with Saint-Jean-de-Tholome and Peillonnex.
