Nancy-sur-Cluses is a French commune in the department of Haute-Savoie in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes .
geography
Nancy-sur-Cluses is located at 934 m , south of Cluses , about 37 kilometers southeast of the city of Geneva (as the crow flies). The mountain village extends on a terrace above the breakthrough valley of the Arve , in the north-eastern Bornes Alps (part of the Savoy Alps ), in Faucigny .
The area of the 14.92 km² municipal area includes a section of the Bornes Alps. The northern border runs on the rocky slopes in the area of the narrow point of Cluses below the village. From here, the community area extends southwards over the terrace of Nancy and the saddle of Romme to the adjacent mountain peaks of the Tête de la Sallaz ( 2020 m ) and the Tête des Muets ( 2078 m ), which form the basin of Le Reposoir from the upper Arve valley separate. The highest point of Nancy-sur-Cluses is reached at 2183 m below the Pointe d'Areu, which is part of the Chaîne des Aravis.
Nancy-sur-Cluses includes the villages of La Frasse ( 940 m ) on a terrace above the Arve Valley, Romme ( 1297 m ) on a transition to the Vallée du Reposoir, the hamlets of Cusson ( 880 m ) and Les Chavannes ( 1200 m ) as well some homesteads. Neighboring municipalities of Nancy-sur-Cluses are Cluses in the north, Magland in the east and Le Reposoir and Scionzier in the west.
Attractions
The baroque village church was built in the 18th century. There are chapels in Romme and La Frasse.

With 460 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Nancy-sur-Cluses is one of the small communities in the Haute-Savoie department. In the course of the 19th and 20th centuries, the number of inhabitants decreased continuously due to strong emigration (in 1861 there were 399 inhabitants in Nancy-sur-Cluses). Since the beginning of the 1980s, however, thanks to the beautiful residential area, the population has increased again.
Economy and Infrastructure
Nancy-sur-Cluses was a village dominated by agriculture and alpine farming until well into the 20th century . Today there are various small business enterprises. Many workers are commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area, especially in Cluses. In the last few decades Nancy-sur-Cluses has also developed into a holiday resort and local recreation destination.
The village is very well developed in terms of traffic. Nancy-sur-Cluses is easily accessible from Cluses. Another road connection is with Le Reposoir. The closest connection to the A40 motorway is around eight km away.
