About this picture
Löhne-Bahnhof is in the west of the Gohfeld district

Löhne-Bahnhof is part of the town of Löhne in northeast North Rhine-Westphalia . Until its foundation in 1969 the area was part of the community Gohfeld , and it will officially present the district counted Gohfeld. Even before that, it had developed into its own settlement focus around the Löhne train station . Today it forms the city center of Löhne and is often viewed as a separate district.

Location and districts

Löhne-Bahnhof makes up the southern center and the south of the Löhne urban area. Neighboring districts are Löhne-Ort in the west, Obernbeck in the northwest, Ulenburg in the north and Gohfeld in the east. Otherwise, Herford joins with Schwarzenmoor and Falkendiek in the south and south-west .

The district is located on the south bank of the Werre . The Mahnen district is located on their flood-proof terrace . To the south the terrain rises noticeably and is criss-crossed by several sieks . Here you can first find the district of Steinsiek , which to a lesser extent also extends to the Löhne-Orter area, and in the far south, Bischofshagen , where you feel less belonging due to the remoteness of Löhne-Bahnhof.

Löhne-Bahnhof is densely populated, the population cannot be determined precisely because it is included in the statistics together with Gohfeld. As a rough guide, however, one can assume around a third of the common value (December 31, 2003: 18,642), i.e. around 6,000 inhabitants.

history

  • Middle Ages to the 19th century: The area belongs to the Gohfeld parish .
  • 16th and 19th centuries: Dunning, Steinsiek and Bischofshagen are in the peasantry Bischofshagen summarized and then belong to the community Gohfeld.
  • 1847: Construction of the Cologne-Mindener railway , the station is actually supposed to be built in the village of Löhne (-Ort). After protests by the local population, construction was carried out further east near Mahnen and thus in Gohfeld's area, but the planned name Löhne for the breakpoint was retained.
  • 1855/75: With the construction of the Hanover West Railway and the Southern Railway in the direction of Hameln , the station becomes an important railway junction for passenger and freight traffic in northwest Germany. Business people settle down around the train station, the population is growing, independent of the Gohfeld core area, a separate settlement focus is being created with an impact on the surrounding area, the name Löhne-Bahnhof is becoming established.
  • 1895/96: The parish Dunning is formed by Abpfarrung of Gohfeld and built the church.
  • 1903: Relocation of the Gohfeld and Mennighüffen offices from Gohfeld to Löhne-Bahnhof
  • 1904–1917: The tracks are expanded, the marshalling yard laid out, the station building is given its current appearance.
  • 1945: (March 14th): Extensive air raid by the Allies , around 20,000 incendiary and 2,200 high- explosive bombs destroy the railway tracks and 542 buildings, killing 130 people.
  • 1968: Construction of the town hall for the town of Löhne to be founded.

On January 1, 1969, Löhne-Bahnhof and Gohfeld became part of the new city. The designated area north of the train station cannot fully fulfill its function as an effective, attractive city center as envisaged by urban planning .

Since 1970 the station has been gradually losing its function as a railway junction, eventually even completely.
