Location of Mennighüffen in Löhne

Mennighüffen is a district of the city of Löhne in northeast North Rhine-Westphalia . Until it was founded in 1969, the place was an independent municipality .

Location and geography

Mennighüffen makes up the north and northeast of the Löhn city area, its around 10,500 inhabitants make up almost a quarter of the population. Neighboring districts are Gohfeld in the southeast and Ulenburg in the south and southwest. Otherwise, Hüllhorst with Huchzen , Tengern and Bröderhausen in the northwest and Bad Oeynhausen with Wulferdingsen and Werste in the northeast and east .

The district stretches from the Werre valley (the course of the river itself is barely touched) northwards into the Quernheim hill country , a sub-area of the Ravensberger Mulde . The terrain rises from 50 m above sea level to 105 m in the north, then drops back down to about 75 m towards the Bollbach . That watercourse flows into the Tengerner Bach , which in turn flows into the Mühlenbach , which feeds its water to the Werre. The brooks form the approximate local borders in the north and west, the Rehlbieke those in the east. The core area is drained by the Ostscheider Bach and its tributaries.

The underground rock consists of Liasschichten on which part saaleeiszeitliche meltwater sands partly marl rest. The top layer is formed by fertile loess of considerable thickness, which enables productive agriculture , so that the area is almost entirely free of forests.

Districts and traffic

Mennighüffen is densely populated. The various districts have largely grown together along the main roads where the majority of the population is concentrated and form elongated bands of settlements. In the western area of the L 773, which leads from Vlotho - Exter in the direction of Lübbecke , the districts of Mennighüffen (by the church, with Holzbrede ), Westscheid and finally Halstern , where the L774 (northern Kirchlengern - Bergkirchen ) crosses.

In the southeast on the L546 ( Bünde - Bad Oeynhausen) you can find Büschen and Ostscheid with Börstel , to the north of it on the branching K 31 (towards Bergkirchen) Besebruch and Horst . Somewhat out of the way are Krell with Langengraß in the east and Grimminghausen with Langenhagen in the north.

Only a little south of the local area, in the Ulenburg district, runs the federal highway 30 with the exit Löhne. Ulenburg, with just under 500 inhabitants, is historically and mostly also in terms of settlement area closely linked to Mennighüffen, which is why it is generally perceived as belonging to it for the most part.
