Location of Sundern in Hiddenhausen

Sundern is the smallest part of the municipality of Hiddenhausen in the Herford district . In 1224 Sundern was first mentioned in writing as Sundere . Until 1968 Sundern was an independent municipality in the Herford-Hiddenhausen district . On January 1, 1969, the place was incorporated into Hiddenhausen. In 2019 Sundern had 1,433 inhabitants.

Sundern is located in the south of Hiddenhausen and has its own Protestant primary school. The lands around Sundern belonged to the secularization of Herford . The Abbess of Herford had her summer residence “Solitüde” in the “Sundern” forest area.

Economy and Infrastructure

The Herford brewery is located in Sundern . There is also a shopping center with a supermarket, a discounter, a pharmacy and a savings bank branch. The Sundern stop was on the Herford small railway , which was shut down in 1966.

Sundern is on the national road 545, which leads from Bünde to Herford . The road had many potholes in the through town. In August 2012, the municipality of Hiddenhausen announced that it would completely block the L 545 in Sundern from January 2014 in order to rehabilitate the street. The street was completely closed for the renovation in Sundern from September 2014 to August 27, 2015. Already in 2012 the L 545 in Lippinghausen was completely closed for renovation, the traffic was or is being diverted via Schweicheln or Oetinghausen .
