The Denti della Vecchia (German uncommon: " the teeth of the ancients ") are a ridge between Monte Brè and Cima di Foiorina , a mountain range that extends from Lugano in the west to Regagno in the east. The mountain range separates Valcolla in the north from Lake Lugano in the south. Alpe di Castello is located on the Italian southern flank .

description

The individual Dolomite peaks are the southernmost climbing area in Switzerland and are also known as the Ticino Cross Mountains . The climbing area is well developed with the Capanna Pairolo SAT and the Capanna Baita del Luca (SAC Ticino). Coming from the club hut, first follow the “Sassi Palazzi” to the west. Behind the "Bassa d'Ogé" is at point 1398  m above sea level. M. the last eastern crossing before the mountain group. The Passo Streccione provides the ascent to the Sasso Grande 1491  m above sea level. M. the highest elevation. The south-westerly conclusion is the Bocchetta di Brumea at 1263  m above sea level. M. From this crossing it is not far to Alpe Bolla .

The spikes rising out of the forest like tooth stumps ( Italian denti: teeth ) can best be seen from the opposite valley flank of the Valcolla, around the height of Bidogno . From the Capanna Monte Bar you have a good panoramic view of the entire chain.

hike

The well-marked mountain path from Capanna Pairolo to Alpe Bolla is partly narrow and exposed. The travel time is given as 1h 35 'and in the opposite direction 1h 50'.

Climb

The Dolomite climbing area Denti della Vecchia is the first and most important climbing area in Ticino in terms of climbing history. Already at the beginning of the thirties, people were climbing here secured with hooks in climbing shoes with hemp soles. Shortly after the Second World War , many famous foreign climbers and alpinists such as André Roch , Emilio Comici and Riccardo Cassin trained on the Denti. The local Gruppo degli Scoiattoli was particularly committed to the development. Today there are the many individual climbing massifs hundreds of climbing routes in the difficulty 3b to 8a after the French scale. The climbing area is particularly suitable for experienced climbers, as the routes are not set up for children to lead and top-rope climbing is rarely done. The area is therefore not suitable for beginners. Only on the approach there is a smaller exercise block on the way. Thanks to its southern location, you can climb here almost all year round.
