The Capanna del Pairolo ( German Pairolo hut ) is a refuge in the upper Val Colla in the former municipality of Cimadera in the canton of Ticino . It stands at 1347 m above sea level. M. at the foot of the Denti della Vecchia in the Lugano Prealps .
history
The Pairolo hut was built in 1937 and modernized in 1977. It belongs to the SAT Lugano section of the Società Alpinistica Ticinese (SAT) and the umbrella organization Federazione Alpinistica Ticinese (FAT). The hut has two floors with a dining room for 60 people and a large outdoor area with tables and a fountain. The kitchen has a gas and wood stove. The lighting is operated with solar cells .
The hut was built in 1937 as a base for climbers from Lugano to enable tours in the limestone towers of Denti della Vecchia. Thanks to its low location, the hut is free of snow early in spring and remains accessible for climbers, hikers, bikers and hut visitors until late autumn.
On a fine day, the view extends to Monte Rosa and the four-thousand-meter peaks of the Mischabel group of the Bernese Alps.
Approaches
- From Cimadera ( 2122 m above sea level ) in 1 ½ hours walking time (level of difficulty T1).
- From Sonvico ( 628 m above sea level ), 700 meters in altitude in 2 ½ hours (T2).
Cimadera and Sonvico can be reached by public bus from Lugano.
Ascents
- Denti della Vecchia ( 1492 m above sea level ) in 1 ¼ hours. The actual climbing peaks are only for experienced mountaineers (T5) and experienced climbers ( difficulty levels 3b to 8a).

activities
The hut and the area are suitable for hikers, nature lovers, bikers, schools, families and groups. There is a climbing wall at the hut, climbing equipment can be borrowed.
