The Federazione Alpinistica Ticinese (FAT) is the umbrella organization of the Ticino alpine clubs .

prehistory

In the canton of Ticino there are (as of 2018) 77 mountain huts (Capanne) with a total of 2370 beds and 47,813 overnight stays per year (huts divided by valleys: Leventina 14, Blenio 13, Verzasca 10, Maggia 13, Onsernone 4, Locarnese 2, Riviera 5, Bellinzonese 7, Sottoceneri 6, Mesolcina / Calanca 3). They belong to the following organizations: FAT 30, SAC 11, Patriziati (local citizen communities) 23 and Various 13.

They employed around 100 people on a part-time basis (four months in summer). The nine largest huts have between 120 ( Cadlimohütte ) and 56 beds. In summer there are 42 huts and 35 self-catering huts. Of the huts that are open in winter, 9 are manned and 5 are not manned.

In addition to the mountain huts, there are around 125 smaller mountain huts (rifugi) with 2 to 10 places.

history

The FAT was founded on October 31, 1965. It consists of sixteen Ticino sections with different names, 29 huts and around 8,000 members. These include the sections of the Unione Ticinese Operai Escursionisti (UTOE) and the Società Alpinistica Ticinese (SAT).

The FAT promotes hiking and mountaineering, especially among young people, as well as knowledge and protection of the alpine world. He works with associations such as the three Ticino sections of the Swiss Alpine Club ( SAC Ticino , SAC Bellinzona e Valli , SAC Locarno ) that pursue similar goals. He organizes training courses for hiking and tour guides and supports the sections in purchasing safety equipment.

The FAT includes various associations with mountain huts , with which it regulates the activity and reciprocal rights to huts in the Ticino mountains.

The newspaper “L'alpinista ticinese” was founded in 1959 to strengthen the cohesion of the various Alpine clubs based in Ticino.
