The Capanna Barone ( German : Baronehütte) is a self-catering hut in the municipality of Sonogno in Val Vergonèss in the Ticino Alps . It is one of the five shelters that make up Via Alta della Verzasca (VAV) and belongs to the Società Escursionistica Verzaschese (SEV).
description
The hut is located at 2172 m above sea level. M. in a side valley of the Verzasca valley . In 1975 it was converted from an old alpine dairy into a mountain hut and an annex was added in 1999.
It has a kitchen and lounge and dining room for 40 people. The kitchen is equipped with a wood and gas stove and cookware. Toilets and running water are inside the building. The huts are heated with wood and illuminated with solar cells. The 35 beds are divided between two buildings.
The hut is the stage of the sixth stage of the Via Alta Idra high trail , which leads in 12 stages from the source of the Ticino river to its confluence with Lake Maggiore .

- From Sonogno ( 918 m above sea level ) the hut can be reached in 4 hours of walking (level of difficulty T2). Sonogno can be reached by public transport.
