The Capanna del Gesero ( German Geserohütte ) is a refuge in the Valle di Arbedo in the village of Arbedo in the canton of Ticino in the Lepontine Alps at an altitude of 1765 m above sea level. M.
The new hut, which will be inaugurated in 2021, is located at 2000 m above sea level. M. and has 32 beds.
History and description
The timber structure was inaugurated in 1940 in the La Biscia area. In 1945 the hut was moved to its current location in wooden military accommodation and renovated in 1958. It is located above the alp of the same name at the foot of the Corno di Gesero. It was the first UTOE hut and belongs to the Bellinzona section of the Unione Ticinese Operai Escursionisti (UTOE) under the umbrella organization Federazione Alpinistica Ticinese (FAT).
The one-story hut has a lounge / dining room with 50 seats. The kitchen has a gas and wood stove. It is heated with wood and illuminated with solar cells. The 64 beds are accommodated in 4 rooms.
A new hut is to be built one kilometer further west on the lonely ridge that slopes down from the Cima delle Cicogne towards Sasso Guidà.
The area is suitable for hikers and families and as a starting point for the transition to other huts in the region.
Hut access with walking time
- From Carena ( 958 m above sea level ) via Alpe Croveggia in 2 ½ hours (level of difficulty T2).
- Monti Laura ( 1372 m above sea level ) via Alpe di Cadinello in 1 ½ hours (T1). The Monti Laura can be reached by car from Roveredo.
- From Arbedo ( 274 m above sea level ) via Valle d'Arbedo and Monti di Cò in 4 ½ hours (T1).
The refuge is accessible by car from Roveredo GR and Arbedo.
Ascents
- Passo San Jorio ( 2012 m above sea level ) in 2 hours (T2).
At the San Jorio Pass there is a history trail of the Ticino fortresses with military installations from the First and Second World Wars .
