Lugano Prealps (SOIUSA)

The Lugano Prealps (Section 11) within the Western Alps .

The Lugano Prealps (or after the Partizione delle Alpi also Western Lombard Prealps or Lugano Alps ) are a mountain group of the Western Alps (section 11 according to SOIUSA classification ). They are located in Switzerland in the canton of Ticino and in Italy in the Lombardy region .

Limits

The Lugano Prealps are limited:

• from Lake Maggiore in the west
• from the Locarno - Bellinzona - Gravedona line in the north, or the San Jorio Pass .
• from the eastern arm of Lake Como to the east
• from the Po Valley in the south.

The highest mountain is the Pizzo di Gino (2245 m).

According to SOIUSA , the Lugano Prealps can be divided into two subsections and five mountain groups.

• Como Prealps
  • Gino - Camoghè - Fiorina
  • Generoso - Gordona
  • Palanzone - San Primo - Corni di Canzo mountain range
• Varese pre-Alps
  • Tamaro - Gambarogno - Lema
  • Piambello - Campo dei Fiori - Nudo .
