history

The village was first mentioned in 1264 as Colla .

The towns of Colla, Signôra , Scareglia , Insone , Piandera , Certara and part of Cimadera formed a neighborhood ( vicinia ) in the Middle Ages , which in the first half of the 15th century had to provide 92 soldiers and war material to the Duke of Milan . Colla has formed its own parish since 1591; the church consecrated to St. Peter is first attested in 1477.

The political municipality of Valcolla was founded in 1956 when the previously independent municipalities of Scareglia, Insone, Piandera and Signôra merged. As a result of the merger of the municipalities of Bogno , Certara , Cimadera and Valcolla, which took place in 2013, the town is now part of the newly formed Lugano district of Val Colla .
