Until 1955, Scareglia was a municipality in the Lugano district in the Swiss canton of Ticino .

geography

Scareglia is located at 1002 m above sea level. M. in the upper Val Colla , at the southern foot of the 2116 m high Gazzirola. The pass San Lucio (1541 m above sea level) leads from here to the Italian municipality of Cavargna .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1335 as Scarellia and the village must have belonged to the great vicinia of Colla TI with a certain autonomy , at least in the first half of the 15th century the vicinia Scareglia is mentioned in 1686.

Community merger

In 1956 Scareglia merged with the municipalities of Colla , Insone , Piandera and Signôra to form the new municipality of Valcolla . Today is a district of the city of Lugano . It consists of the previously independent municipalities of Bogno , Certara , Cimadera and Valcolla , which were incorporated into Lugano on April 13, 2013 and are all located in the valley called Val Colla.

  • Francesco Frapolli (* around 1770 in Scareglia; † 1819 there), architect in Russia
  • Giovanni Frapolli (* around 1775 in Scareglia; † 1826 in Odessa ), brother of Francesco, architect. He worked together with his older brother as the city architect of Odessa. First, Franz and Ilja, as they were called there, devoted themselves to expanding the port with shipyards and warehouses (1810–1816) under the direction of the Dutch fortress engineer Franz de Volant.
