Until April 1, 2017, Lodrino was a political municipality in the Riviera district , in the Riviera district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland . On April 2, 2017, Lodrino merged with the former municipalities of Cresciano , Iragna and Osogna to form the new municipality of Riviera .

geography

The core of the settlement lies on the right bank of the Ticino River on the valley floor of the Rivieratal . The municipality includes the Val di Lodrino , which is drained by the Lodrino . Between the motorway and the Ticino River is the Lodrino military airfield .

history

The village was first mentioned in 857 under the then name Ludrini , then in 1193 Ludrino . On July 11, 1930, Giovanni Bassanesi and Gioacchino Dolci started his famous flight over the Alps from Lodrino airfield . They flew illegally over Italian territory and dropped 150,000 anti-fascist leaflets over Milan.
