Piero Bianconi (born June 1, 1899 in Minusio ; † June 5, 1984 ibid) was a Swiss writer , translator, lecturer and art historian.

Life

Piero Bianconi was born to Alessandro and Margherita Rusconi. His brother is the poet Giovanni Bianconi . From 1932 to 1934 he stayed in Florence and Rome , working on his doctoral thesis and listening to Pietro Toesca lecturing in art history . In Italy he made friends with writers, poets and critics. He stayed in Florence and Rome, where he visited the intellectuals who revolved around the frontispiece (Bargellini, Betocchi, Bo, Don De Luca) from whom he developed a taste for fragment and stylistically elegant prose. He completed his studies in Italian literature at the University of Friborg (Switzerland) and received his doctorate in 1935. In Switzerland, he taught from 1935 to 1936 as a lecturer in Italian at the University of Bern . He then taught French and art history at the teachers' college in Locarno and at the Lyceum in Lugano .

Bianconi started with Ritagli , a collection of short texts that immediately reveal a strong taste for formal elegance and the hearty word. This was followed by Croci e rascane (crosses and rascane), a first important stage in the Bianconian prose: the interest in the humanity of the village is remarkable, as is the discovery of the baroque character of the canton of Ticino.

He translated u. a. Balzac , Baudelaire , Samuel Butler , Diderot , Flaubert , Johann Wolfgang von Goethe , Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz , Rousseau , Stendhal and Voltaire and non-fiction about Francesco Borromini , Hieronymus Bosch , Pieter Bruegel , Antonio da Correggio , Matthias Grünewald , Lorenzo Lotto , Piero della Francesca and Félix Vallotton .
