Giovanni Orelli

Giovanni Orelli (born October 30, 1928 in Bedretto , Canton Ticino ; † December 3, 2016 in Lugano ) was a Swiss writer whose work includes prose and poetry .

Life

Orelli was the cousin of his fellow Ticino writer Giorgio Orelli . He studied at the University of Zurich and then in Milan at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, where he obtained a degree in medieval and humanistic philology from Giuseppe Billanovich . In Lugano he worked as a high school teacher for Italian literature from 1963 to 1992 . He also worked for radio and television in Italian-speaking Switzerland . For the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland he was a member of the Ticino cantonal parliament for one legislative period .

His archive is located in the Swiss Literature Archive in Bern .

In 2012 Orelli received the Grand Schiller Prize together with Peter Bichsel .
