Dieter Bachmann (born December 17, 1940 in Basel ) is a Swiss publicist and writer .

Life

Dieter Bachmann studied German and philosophy and received his doctorate in 1969 with a thesis on essay and essayism at the University of Zurich . He initially worked as a journalist (from 1970) as editor of Weltwoche , then at Tages Anzeiger-Magazin (today: Das Magazin ), and finally from 1988 to 1998 as editor-in-chief of the Swiss cultural magazine du .

Between 1975 and 1985 he was a member of the Pro Helvetia Board of Trustees . From 2000 to 2003 he directed the Istituto Svizzero di Roma . He has lived mainly in Italy since 2001.

Bachmann is a member of the Swiss Writers' Association and the Swiss Press Association (VSP).

  • 2002 Honorary gift from the Canton of Zurich
  • 2003 Prize for individual work from the Swiss Schiller Foundation
  • 2015 Recognition award from the Canton of Zurich for the novel The Gardens of Medusa
