Zurich Journalism Prize

The Zurich Journalists' Prize was founded in 1980 by the Zurich Press Association (ZPV). The prize is intended to make a concrete contribution to promoting journalistic quality in German-speaking Switzerland .

Jury and regulations

Three prizes are awarded annually. In addition, the jury can award a prize for the entire work. Works are admitted if they have been published in a print or online medium in the whole of German-speaking Switzerland, primarily in Zurich and Schaffhausen , or if their authors work or live mainly in these cantons.

The jury for the Zurich Journalists' Prize currently (2015) consists of: President Hannes Britschgi (Head of the Ringier School of Journalism ), Susan Boos (Editor-in-Chief WOZ ), Alain Zucker ( Journalist, NZZ am Sonntag ), Lisa Feldmann (author) and Hansi Voigt (journalist) Nina Jecker (Basler Zeitung) Stefan von Bergen (Berner Zeitung). Former jury members are Fredy Gsteiger (Swiss Radio SRF ), Margrit Sprecher (publicist), Marco Meier (publicist and philosopher) and Susanne Mühlemann ( balance sheet ).

The trustees are currently (2017) to: President Andrea Masüger ( CEO Somedia ) Riccarda Mecklenburg (journalist, lecturer), Kaspar Loeb (communication consultant) and Rainer Stadler (NZZ). Former foundation board members are: David Strohm (NZZ am Sonntag), President Christoph Born (media attorney), Esther Girsberger (publicist, speakers.ch) and Manuela Nyffenegger. Brigitte Becker is the managing director. The project manager is Katrin Pranjes-Lotti.

Thiriet's prize contribution about the supposed astronaut Barbara Burtscher was criticized by Medienwoche , among other things , because Thiriet did not name the blog of a DRS2 science journalist as a supposedly “central source of inspiration”. Barbara Burtscher sued Thiriet, and on October 24, 2012 he was convicted in the first instance for defamation .
