history

In 1988 the architect Benedikt Loderer founded Hochparterre as a magazine in the Curti Medien publishing house. Köbi Gantenbein , newspaper maker and sociologist , was involved from the start . In 1991 Loderer, Gantenbein, Sarah Mengis and other companions took over the mezzanine floor and founded their own publishing house. Köbi Gantenbein has been editor-in-chief since 1997. Benedikt Loderer has been retired since 2010.

The same wage for everyone was introduced as early as 1992, which means that from the third year on, all employees receive the same wages as long-term employees or the editor-in-chief.

The Hochparterre magazine appears ten times a year and reports in text and images on architecture, urban development and design in Switzerland. Hochparterre readers are mostly active in these fields. The magazine is also valued in the wider community: building managers, real estate agents, manufacturers, engineers and carpet dealers. The small publishing house grew over the years.

The first invention were thematic booklets, which are monographs, studies or general representations devoted to a topic, an architect or a city. Today, the Hochparterres employees publish twenty themed issues every year. They are a mainstay of Hochparterre's economy, because the themed issues are financed from third-party funds.

The specialist journal hochparterre.wettbewerbe has been part of the publisher since 2001 . The magazine appears five times a year and documents and comments on the architecture competition in Switzerland with plans, pictures and texts. hochparterre.wettbewerbe reached a circulation of 2000 pieces. Books and apps on architecture, design, spatial planning and landscape architecture have been published in Edition Hochparterre since 2008 , including the “Floor Plan Guide” and a series of architecture guides. The news portal Hochparterre.ch has reported daily on architecture, competitions, planning and design in Switzerland since 2011 and reaches 30,000 readers per month.
