Isolde Schaad (born October 9, 1944 in Schaffhausen ) is a Swiss journalist and writer .

Life

Isolde Schaad, born in Schaffhausen in 1944 as the daughter of the painter Werner Schaad, is one of the well-known Swiss authors of the 1968 generation . She studied art history , ethnology and journalism at the universities of Zurich and Cambridge .

Schaad worked as the arts editor for Weltwoche until she decided to go freelance in 1974. After study trips to the Near and Middle East, Africa and the USA, she settled in 1982 as a freelance writer and journalist in Zurich. She then wrote her journalistic texts especially for the weekly newspaper (WOZ) .

Her specialty is the critical observation of society, which she devotes to the near and distant environment. In 1984 her first work, Knowhow, appeared on Kilimanjaro . In 1997, Mein Text so blau was chosen as “Book of the Year” by the Swiss Schiller Foundation. Her most recent novel Robinson and Julia (2010) is about old and new gender roles .
