Hedi Wyss

Hedwig "Hedi" Elisabeth Wyss (born October 17, 1940 in Bern ) is a Swiss writer and journalist .

Live and act

Hedi Wyss grew up in Bern, where she also attended schools and universities. During her studies, she worked as a trainee in the culture department of the daily newspaper Der Bund in Bern. For two years she worked as an editor in the fields of culture and reporting for the magazine Die Frau .

She has been a freelance journalist and writer since 1969. She wrote for newspapers and magazines such as Badener Tagblatt , Zürichsee-Zeitung , NZZ , Weltwoche , Annabelle , Emma , WoZ , Wir Eltern , Spick and the Panda-Journal . She worked for the press office of WWF Switzerland for five years . She also published the children's magazine Panda Club here .

Hedi Wyss' first book, Das rosarote Mädchenbuch , a non-fiction book on women's history , was a long-seller in the context of the newly emerging feminism .

Because of the art critical work Wyss was recommended by Heiny Widmer for the «Aargauer Kuratorium» for the promotion of cultural life. From 1978 to 1986 she worked there as a juror in the visual arts and literature working groups. From 1995 to 2002 she was a member of the jury for the award of the children's and youth media prize “ Die Rote Zora ”. She has been President of the Board of Trustees of the "Temperatio" Foundation since 2004 and has been a member of the "Present" Foundation since 2005. The foundation of the “GegenwART” foundation was initiated in mid-2005 by her brother, the entrepreneur Hansjörg Wyss .

As a journalist and writer, she wrote reports , essays and columns on, among other things, art, literature, theater, film, education and women's issues. Art, but above all ecology and behavioral research of animals and humans, remain the focus of her interest. They are reflected in their journalistic and literary works as well as in their commitment by supporting ecological, artistic and social projects in cooperation with foundations. Among other things, she writes columns for the online magazine Literatur & Kunst. a magazine of literature and art .

In 1989 she received a grant from the city of Bern for a six-month stay in New York. Besides the USA, she traveled to Africa, Asia and European countries. Hedi Wyss lives and works in Kilchberg near Zurich.
